Dear Lord, how great it is, the way you made children the treasures they are. I applaud your creativity! Your sense of humor! Your love for life and humans like me! Thank you for the kids you have put in my life. I commit to receive the youngest, most insignificant, as I would receive you, were you to visit me. I love you Lord; give me grace to love little ones—and learn from them—the same way. Amen.

Unquenchable Grins

GIRL RECEIVES PIG-HEART TRANSPLANT, NOW SHE CAN’T STAY OUT OF THE MUD (actual headline, Weekly World News)

Ispotted this headline as I was standing in line at the grocery checkout. Who makes these things up, any-way? What a blast it would be to work at that paper and come up with one bizarre headline after another. Their staff must have hilarious brainstorming sessions! And who buys this tabloid, anyway?

Some say truth is stranger than fiction; others say it isn’t stranger, just more rare. One thing is sure: If you tell the truth, there’s less to remember! Seriously, think of all the weird things that have ever happened to you and the people you know. If you’ve been through difficulties, as I have, try writing them into Weekly World News headlines like “Local Mom Goes Bald When Daughter Dates Space Alien.” Go ahead, amuse yourself!

Then think about your life in politically correct terms: Do you know how you can tell if you’re codependent? When you die, you see someone else’s life pass before your eyes!

No matter what, don’t ever let yesterday use up too much of today. If it sneaks up on you, turn the tables on it. Like interest rates, make trouble work for you, not against you. You don’t always need a comedian to make you laugh. Once you get started, you can pull a few one-liners out of the bag yourself. When someone says, “Life is hard,” say, “I prefer it to the alternative, don’t you?” When somebody else complains about getting old, answer, “Right now, I’m just sitting here being thankful that wrinkles don’t hurt!”

Life is too short to spend it being angry, bored, or dull. That was never God’s intention. Maybe boredom and dullness aren’t on any list of sins in the Bible, but they will sap your joy if you tolerate them.

Don’t swallow Satan’s lie that you have to keep swallowing bitter pills all your life. Fight back by developing and relishing a divine sense of humor, the gift God builds into your personality.

Got a problem? Make it an occasion to laugh. Live in a small town where everybody knows your business? Look at it this way: Even when you don’t know what you’re doing, someone else does. Concerned that your teenagers are never home? Try creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere—and then let the air out of their tires. Worried about not being able to keep up with everything and everyone? Recognize once and for all that you’re over the hill when you start spelling relief N-A-P.

No matter how old they grow, some people never lose their beauty.
